Am I overweight or not?!?

I'm 5'0" and i weigh about 130lbs...i'm wanting to lose some weight but im not sure how because anytime i try to it seems as though i actually gain weight instead of losing it. any tips..dont tell me atkins because i cant do that anytime i try i pass out for some reason...thanks for your help!

We can't tell whether you're overweight or not due to us not knowing your muscle mass.
And you gain weight when you exercise because you are gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. Muscle is a good thing.
Yeah, I'd say about 115-120. I was 5'11" and weighed about 140-145 at one point.
Well some of the times you probably want to know ur fat% verus ur muscle% because muscle will weigh more then fat so you mite have gained muscle wieght...its not all about the scale its about how fit you are and about you feel about yourself! =)

overwieght may sound bad but it just means what it says. overweight can be like one pound or two pounds over weight even. you dont sound fat or overweight. ask a health person or something what the average weight for your age and height is supposed to be.

no you not the way to find a proper weight for you self is to multiply how many inches you are of five for by 5[in you case 0x5=0] then add to 100 [in your case 100+0=100] so you are not over weight and you might weigh less if you have a small bone structure

Am I overweight if I am 5'4" and 145lbs? I am very muscular though (playing field hockey forever)?

I have been playing field hockey ever since i rememeber but just recently i have put on a ton of weight (45 lbs in two years). I used to be really small - - size two! I just really need to know if there would be an easy way for me to burn off the extra fat and become really really toned again. I was a while back but everything just seems to have gone downhill. Well that's definitely not fat! I'm 5'2" and 135 lbs, and all of my friends are always saying how petite I am. But I went on seventeen.com and checked my BMI (Body Mass Index) and it said that I am overweight! There is no possible way that I am overweight. I'm very self conscious of myself, but even I know that I am not overweight. So whatever you do, don't trust those stupid BMI charts, because I'm still in a size 4 and anyone who's in a size 4 at 15 is not overweight. I don't know how old you are, but you're not overweight. If you want to lose some weight, just only eat three meals a day, healthy ones. Make sure you get in all the different food groups. Drink 6-8 glasses of water a day, and set up an hour or so every day or every other day to work out. You'll see results fast. =] I should probably do that.. I did that once and I got great results, but now that it's summer I'm just sitting at the computer asking and answering questions with no life. Fun =]

muscle weighs more than fat, that's an athlete's rule, so don't pay so much attention to the number on the scale. i'm a fh player too, and we have big thighs. but, if you're gaining fat, make sure you work out in the off season (play indoor, join the gym) and keep in shape. do 8 minute abs - it's quick and works on abdominal fat (video is on youtube). target the areas youve gained weight. figure out what you did different to gain weight. if you get hungry, make sure you keep the kitchen stocked with your favorite foods that you know are healthy (favorite fruits, etc).

You should weigh about 105-130 lbs. I think that means you are at the top of your healthy weight range (if my math is correct!) You don't say your age. If you are in your 20's or older you could probably lose a kilo or two, but if you are younger than that, you are just right the way you are. Eat plenty of fresh raw fruits and raw or cooked vegetables, and begin exercising 15-30 minutes each day doing something you really enjoy and look forward to. Well put it this way, I'm 6'2" and weigh 89/90kg. I swim 1km everyday and have some muscle. I don't know what my ratio to fat is but on the 'Weight/Height' charts, I am overweight. Why? because the chart does not know how much muscle you have, and muscle wighs more than fat so it's inaccurate, I would say you are in the right range. To increase muscle, I would do some running or swimming.Good luck.
How many times have I read on this site people using the BMI to calculate the "ideal" weight. The BMI is outdated! It uses your height, and weight and this is grossly inaccurate. What should be used is your body fat %. This way, it'll give a better accuracy of whether you're overweight or not. If the BMI was used for football players, then they would be all considered overweight, which is not true. They have more muscles than the average joe. So go get your body fat % checked. Maybe go to a gym which does it with "body fat calipers", don't go for one's which use a body fat calculator, they are not accurate!

Am I over doing it when my body aches?

its cuz ur muscles have been worked out and havent recovered.which means that u havent taken enough protein and sleep to help them recover back to normal. Ur muscles work out and tear up..u take protein and when u sleep the protein fills up the space between them and heals them. So today, DONT work out cuz ur muscles havent heal yet...and u would damage them if you further exercise/ injure yourself.
How often, and for how long are you exercising? You have to understand that every body is different. You may want to switch to every other day. Or 3 times per week. Generally speaking...Pain is your bodies way of telling you that you are overdoing it. By that I mean real pain. A little burn is good. You have to decide whether or not what you've got is a little burn or pain. Good luck.

Am I only the only one Weight Watchers didn't work for?

I have two work colleagues who have lost weight using weight watchers. I tried them some months ago and think I just went to the wrong class. The leader took my weight and money, showed me the plan quickly then asked me if I wanted to buy any receipe books. I only went twice after that and lost about 2 pounds.

Weight Watchers didn't work for me either. I went for about 3 months, one week I'd lose a couple of pounds, next week I'd put on half a pound, maybe nothing the third week, maybe lose half a pound or so more the fourth. Overall, it made no great difference, and I really did stick to it. I felt hungry all the time too. I went with a friend and she lost like 20 pounds over the same time, so I don't know? I didn't find that the leader of the class was remotely interested in why it wasn't working for me either - I think she wanted to give gung-ho talks and sell more of their crappy points books and overpriced additive-ridden food, and I just quit. I've lost weight since by not thinking about my weight so much - but by eating carefully and slowly and enjoying every single thing I eat rather than just comfort eating, and by trying to be generally more active in my life, even if it's just walking up to the next busstop or trying to stay more on my feet at work. For me, these tiny 24/7 attitude changes have made much more difference than any point-counting regime.

hmmmm.i went to weight watchers and lost 15 pounds. But your leader doesn't sound very good. Like the leader I had she sat down and explained EVERYTHING!! So Maybe you need to go to a different weight watchers meeting center
Sometimes dieting alone is not sufficient enough for some individuals to lose weight. To assume everyone is the same physiologically is a mistake. Yes weight watchers will work for many, but there are a slim few that will need to collaborate other factors to lose weight. Calorie control along with exercise (muscle building + cardio) can be a new plan of attack for you. Maybe you just need to try a new angle. Good Luck!
You have to really be diligent with any plan. That's why plans fail so much, because people think they're a quick fix, and think they can go back to their old ways. You have to have a lifestyle change that you implement for the rest of your life. You need to eat healthy, unprocessed foods, and you need to exercise. Weight watchers works for people because it's a big support group. I think in order to make it work, you really need to take advantage of the social network at meetings.

I do weight watchers, and i have never been to a class, i joined online, bought like the journal , a points calculator, recipe books, and then after a while i cancelled my subscription, and now i do it alone, and ive lost 10lb :) and i feel better for it - ive got 28lb to go til im at goal, and i know i can do it!! :D

lol no to be honest the best way is not to go on a diet as ive tried them all and diet pills and they dont work lol but just change your diet and go swimming 4-5 times a week for about an hour each time it tones your tummy and all your body up wonderful too ! i lost just over 2 1/2 stone since may its great and i eat loads too im just eating the right foods but instead of swimming try aqua arobics its great and really fun ! great question goodluck !
Don't worry no you are not the only one. I speak to loads of people who have been on the weight watchers diet. Don't get me wrong,. they do have good sucess with this but they don't really focus on the individual, so in some cases it works much better for one than the next.As you say it sounded like that leader didn't have much time for you either thats because they have so many at the meetings they just don't have the time.If you live in the uk email me and I can give you some more info. Im 17 , 5'5 130 pounds id like to lose about 10 to 15 pounds within the next month or so , I have been exercising for 30 minutes on the treadmill 5 days a week along with strength training, i burn about 400 calories on the treadmill and i eat a healthy meal at 6:00pm and the rest of the day i snack on fruits. Do you think i can reach my goal weight if i keep up with what I have been doing? for the past 2 weeks

don't worry, to any sane person that sounds like an ideal and healthy weight for your height! if you want to get in shape just try working out, or maybe pilates or yoga if you want a stronger core, because working out will make you gain weight because you'll gain muscle mass. but you should try to be content with your weight you definetly don't need to lose any.

I'm not stupid enough to think that "It only matter's what is on the inside" because we all know that it's not. How often do you work out and are you doing strength training or muscular endurance? easy way to tell how many repititions do you do if its 6-12 thats strength training and thats where your muscles will grow and you will get bigger and bulk up but if your doing like 12 - 25 reps thats endurance and you will only get bigger to an extent and you will only tone yourself..

Am I man anorexic?

For about the past year my weight has really troubled me after being called fat by people.including my sister and my nan. Im 15, 5'11.1.have stopped growing and weigh 62kg I feel so large and fat but friends always tell me im really skinny. my tendons and arteries on my oposite side of elbows have began sickly sticking out but i still feel fat.
I have lost interest in socialising with friends.
Recently i've started eating 850ish cals a day and i feel like a mad person with no control. if i eat something i do enjoy it.. but then i feel bad.depressed and sometimes lightly self harm to relieve pain.
this is not like me.but i feel like i need help because weight/calories and health is ALWAYS on my mind. i dont go 5 minutes without thinking about it. I would like to get down to 8.5 stone.
my mum has started picking things up and moaning at me about it. i just don't know what to do and i cant go to doctors otherwise they'll make me gain weight.

Oh louie, louie, louie.. you must want to eat again- even doctors can't make you do that. very soon your organs and other parts of the body will be affected. I myself was anorexic at one point, but my mom showed so much concern and she was very persistent in wanting to help me want to eat again... I eventually started eating again to make her happy. She saved my life. A friend of mine wasn't that lucky. When she finally gained weight again- her body showed so much illnesses resulting from the extreme anorexia she suffered from... the last thing I heard about her was that she passed away. It's time for you to obsess about eating healthy- not about not to eat.
Sounds like you may want to get help. 850 calories per day is dangerously low. Im glad someone else weighs themselves in stones. If you cant go 5 minutes without thinking about it, give in and get help.
This does have many of the symptoms of anorexia. You should probably go get help, as getting down to 850 calories a day is dangerous. As for your concerns, the doctors may make you gain weight, but they will keep you at a healthy weight, they won't make you overweight. Also, they will teach you healthier ways to keep off weight.
Tell yourself that anorexia is dangerous, and can be DEADLY. Did you know you actually gain wait by not eating? No, I didn't make that up. Just eat three meals a day. If you're really worried about getting fat, eat things like salad and chicken and tuna, proteins and vitamins and vegetables. As long as you eat healthy, you'll be thin! Drink things like milk and juice to build strong bones and other good things. (: I did a paper on anorexia, and it can cause a lot of damage. So keep in mind that by not eating what you really need, you're just making your fear reality. SO EAT!
You're pretty skinny so I don't know why anyone would call you fat.
But anyway just eat healthy food all the time and don't feel bad about how much you eat. In my opinion you need to gain a little weight. Forget the counting calories nonsense. Find a picture of someone you want to look like, and then take a picture of yourself and compare.

I dont know your height and size, but I think you should cut calories more to like 1200 calories about. Balanced meals every few hours. Dont do 3x a day, do more like 4-5x a week for 45min - 1 hour. If you do as much as your doing, your burning muscle, and you dont want to burn muscle. I think you should increase the intensity too and also I think you should lift weights.

Am I losing to much?

Okay, so I have losing weight recently, I am running 2 miles every morning, lifting weights, and I cut my calorie intake from 2,000 calories to 1,600. More fruits and veggies, lots less sweets. But I am losing like 4 pounds a week and my friends say I am losing it too fast. Am I or is this norm? This has lasted about a month now, and no I am not trying to be extra extra thin. My goal is 130 and if I keep up this rate, I'll be there in 3 months. Am I okay?

If you eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, whole grained carbs (such as breads and pasta's), healthy fats such as nuts, avocados, all natural peanut butter, beans, and simply cut out processed food and candy and soda, along with a 5 day a week exercise plan you will lose that 5 lbs and be at the healthy perfect weight your body was programmed to be.
If you starve the body, you will lose your muscle mass not the fat. You need to eat to lose... that is the biggest misconception.

You have plenty of time to grow, and even if you're a little bit overweight it's nothing to be ashamed of, so the main thing is to get plenty of exercize. Do anything you like as far as exercize goes.when you start sweating keep exercizing for at least another 30 minutes. Also, be careful about what you drink, sodas have lots of calories and sugar, and it's easy to drink more calories than you need in a whole day! Avoid junk food and eat lots of fresh fruit and vegy's. Don't eat anything at all after 6 pm., and be sure to drink lots of water every day.
